Slash, Perry Farell, Les Claypool, and Tom Morello all doing something together that is not Tawny Kitaen

I don’t quite know what constellations had to align for this to happen, but at the SXSW festival in Austiin, TX (one of THE great music festivals anywhere in the world) the following all took the stage together on March 16: Slash (formerly of GNR), Tom Morello (fmr. of Rage Against the Machine), Perry Farell (fmr. of Jane’s Addiction and Porno for Pyros), and Les Claypool (fmr. of Primus and Oysterhead)! Holy Crap! The story is in the Village Voice along with a ton of other great pictures.
I don’t know what surprises me more, that all these guys played together who formed about 40% of my listening time when I was in high school, or that they allowed Nuno Bettencourt (fmr. of the awful awful band that was Extreme) on the stage with them. What was he doing there? Maybe Tom Morello kept him around for the spare guitars; who knows?

Wow, that’s only the second time all of those people have appeared together. The first was on my wall in seventh grade, and it was an amazing show.

Does that include Nuno Bettencourt? Did you have the III Sides to Every Story album? I hope, for all our sakes, not.

That’s weird… I thought I saw a story about how Morello was busy touring the country pretending to be Woody Guthrie and talking about how hard it was to be the only Harvard grad in his rock bands.
